Discovery Education Acquires Clearlake Capital-Supported Doodlelearning

The acquisition broadens Discovery Education's digital product suite in math and ELA and strengthens the company's presence in the United Kingdom.

Discovery Education, the global edtech pioneer, funded by Clearlake Capital Group, L.P. (collectively, "Clearlake"), acquisition of DoodleLearning. DoodleLearning's Math and English Language Arts products, located in the United Kingdom, provide tailored learning experiences that help students enhance their academic accomplishment and confidence.

The purchase of DoodleLearning contributes to Discovery Education's aim of preparing learners for the future by building creative classrooms that get connected to the real world. DoodleLearning is an addition to Discovery Education's existing award-winning digital offerings, which include the K-12 platform, Mystery Science, STEM Connect, and the Math, Science, and Social Studies Techbooks.

Prior to starting DoodleLearning, Chief Executive Officer Nicola Chilman & Chief Operating Officer Tom Minor worked as math teachers in the United Kingdom. Chilman and Minor designed an app integrating high-quality digital information and pedagogical aids that encouraged youngsters to study in an engaging and personal way in 2011 after witnessing firsthand technology's capacity to enhance student learning.

Today, DoodleLearning provides four products to assist Math and English Language Arts education for grades Pre-K to 9, which have been used by over a million students in the United Kingdom and throughout the world. DoodleLearning, as part of the Discovery Education family of services, will continue to use its educational expertise to develop and deliver inexpensive learning solutions for students globally.
