The University of Bath will open a new innovation and enterprise space on campus to provide a space for student entrepreneurs, researchers and graduate startups to develop and share business ideas.
FREMONT, CA:The University of Bath will open an innovation and entrepreneurship centre on campus, to provide a place for student entrepreneurs, researchers, and graduate companies to create and discuss ideas for products and services and to receive support and mentoring.
Fostering Entrepreneurship and Innovation
The university's enterprise services, which include access to specialist research networks, consulting, support for startups, and support for procuring funding, have been significantly expanded with the creation of the E-Lab.
Many spin-out businesses have been created from research and enterprise at the University of Bath, including the manufacturing software company Gen3D and the bioelectronics business Ceryx Medical, which is creating an improved pacemaker.
Vice President for Enterprise says students are thrilled to see their idea for this crucial new location on campus come to fruition. It will boost the flow of startup companies coming from our entrepreneurial neighbourhood, fostering the innovation ecosystem they are creating in the city and the region. Additionally, it will offer a logical starting point for commercial interactions with the university. Another advantage is sharing space with some of the top research institutions.
One-on-one mentoring, expert advising sessions, start-up workshops, guest speaker events, masterclasses, interviews with entrepreneurs, and networking opportunities for students and professors are just a few of the activities that can be supported by the E-Lab facilities. The university's expanding enterprise campus community can reserve private meeting rooms, use the hotdesking facilities for quiet work, and access an open collaborative workspace.
The ISTART partnership with Bath Spa University, Bath College, and Bath and North East Somerset Council, which will assist locals in gaining new skills and retraining for careers in the creative and digital sectors, will be housed in the E-Lab in addition to other University programmes and projects.
The University's SETsquared Innovation Centre, which is located in the heart of the city and continues to help regionally based startup and scaleup enterprises with an emphasis on high-tech, high-growth SMEs, will be complemented by it.
